The girls’ secondary school of the dillinger franciscan nuns in volkach welcomed two new fifth-graders to the school year that has just begun. The 59 students from classes 5a and 5b gathered with their parents in the auditorium on the first day of school. Principal doris roth, head of the convent sister kunigild steer, chairwoman of the parents’ council angelika martin, head of the all-day care sigrid plutz and the two class leaders birgit engel and kerstin hertle introduced themselves before the girls were put on tenterhooks and called forward by name to be assigned to their respective classes. Like everywhere else at the beginning of the school year, the students made their way to the classroom and quickly tried to get the best seat.
"Fortunately, in the fifth grade, most of them still want to sit as far forward as possible, and some children are quite disappointed that not everyone can sit in the first row," the class leaders noted. With a smile, they added: "this will change in a few years, but this year’s motto for our youngsters is something they should remember today: learning is like rowing against the current. If you stop, you go back," says the school’s message, written by kerstin hertle.
